“We are allowing the town council know that they can not just come in and trump the will of the persons, and that when they do things that are incredibly unpopular, the persons can stand up and say halt,” claims Don Duncan, California director of People in america for Protected Accessibility.

The people today did say quit this September in response to Los Angeles City Council’s ban on healthcare marijuana dispensaries. Fifty thousand Angelenos signed a petition, effectively blocking the ban that was supposed to go into outcome on Sept. 6, 2012.

“Immediately after the metropolis council adopted the ban, clients, collective operators and organized labor all obtained collectively and arranged a referendum marketing campaign,” says Duncan, “we had been in a position to in fact block the implementation of the ban in advance of it even took result and so which is a huge victory for patients.”

Duncan sat down with ReasonTV’s Tracy Oppenheimer to discuss the fight for health-related cannabis, which he claims just isn’t about yet. Voters have to both overturn the ban through the ballot box this spring, or appear up with their individual ordinance through the voter initiative procedure.

Duncan notes that there is substantial assistance for clinical cannabis with 77 percent of Californians supporting the regulation and control of professional medical cannabis. Regretably this guidance could not be more than enough.

“The city attorney is fully commited to the simple fact that professional medical cannabis is unlawful, and so we count on some type of enforcement action from the town legal professional that will possibly include civil actions, but which is almost surely heading to be coupled with some regulation enforcement exercise,” states Duncan, “regrettably that suggests some individuals who are striving to do appropriate, and are trying to take care of sick people and obey the regulation are going to get caught up in that dragnet.
